Sonic Frontiers: Fans are calling for the title to be postponed
The gameplay presentation of Sonic Frontiers caused frowns not only with colleague Matthias. Many fans of the blue hedgehog were not at all enthusiastic about the material shown.
Shortly after the first gameplay scenes of the upcoming open-world game flickered across screens worldwide, the hashtag #DelaySonicFrontiers was created by disappointed fans.
IGN speaks up
The founder of the Sonic Stadium fansite and Global Publishing Director at IGN, Sven Joscelyne, sees no panacea in the demanded postponement of the game. He says: “#DelaySonicFrontiers won’t work because for me the main concern is the overall concept and gameplay approach; delaying to fix bugs and add content won’t fix that. SonicFrontiers seems like a hyper-realistic, combat-oriented Sonic game wanting to be something that takes a cue from the movies and leans more on Sonic’s athleticism than physics and impulse based gameplay, and that’s a good thing if that’s the goal, it’s just not the Sonic game I want for 2022.”
