Surprise: Square Enix announces new Just Cause – title already in development

It’s been a few years since the last Just causegame was released. Just Cause 4 came out in 2018 and since then it has been rather quiet around the Publisher IP Square Enix become. That could change soon, however, as the Japanese game maker recently announced that a new part from the explosive action series is in the works.

Square Enix is keeping Just Cause

Square Enix just had one last month sold much of its Western franchises and studios to Embracer Group. These included studios such as Crystal Dynamicswhich for well-known games like Marvel’s Avengers and Tomb Raider are responsible. Also Eidos Montreal with their deus exseries was part of it.

The Japanese publisher plans to use the sale to strengthen its own focus on western brands. After all this time all the different games were probably too much of a good thing. However, Square Enix has retained a few special gems: Life is Strange or outriders have remained in Square’s hands. This also includes the “Just Cause” brand, which apparently will have a new part gets.

New Just Cause part announced

During the company’s investor briefing last month, Yosuke Matsuda, President and CEO of Square Enix stated: “The Just Cause franchise will remain our IP and we are working on developing a new title in the franchise.”

More information on this “new title” but the publisher did not deliver. Accordingly, it is not yet clear whether this is an unannounced game or whether this is about Just Cause: Mobile goes, which should be published this year.

Square EnixSquare Enix also arguably sold Tomb Raider and Deus Ex for blockchain games

It is suspected that there should be a new Just Cause game in the pipeline Avalanche Studios will take over the development of the title again. The developers at Avalanche Studios were also responsible for previous games in the series. The studio itself remained untouched prior to the aforementioned big sale as it is not owned by Square Enix.

the New York branch from Avalanche Studios, for example, hired in 2020 for a large AAA project that should focus on a large open world and is therefore considered a possible candidate for development. It remains to be seen if these are actually Square Enix’s further plans with the Just Cause brand.
