1-2-Switch: Unannounced sequel was probably not well received by playtesters

Nintendo is apparently working on a sequel to 1-2-Switch, which should build on the solid commercial success of the casual title. However, according to a rumor, a first version of the game does not do particularly well in the first play tests.

1-2-Switch would be for the Nintendo Switch what Wii Sports was for the Wii: a title that showcases the console’s unique selling points in a simple, fun way in the form of casual multiplayer games. Although the game was only mediocrely received by Nintendo fans and the press, it sold 3.5 million units well enough that Nintendo is apparently planning a sequel.

Is Everybody’s 1-2 Switch Coming Online?

However, it doesn’t seem to be going down well at the moment, at least not according to insiders and Fanbyte editor Imran Khan. According to Khan, the game, which is titled Everybody’s 1-2-Switch, has been in development for quite some time. In contrast to the first part, the mini-games here are not intended to be played between two players, but significantly more players (up to 100) at the same time.

According to Khan, the goal of the developers is to create a successor to 1-2-Switch that does not make the predecessor superfluous. The idea: Everybody’s 1-2 switch should feel like a game show that can also use smartphones. The mini-games of a first test version then included, among other things, a kind of travel to Jerusalem variant, spin the bottle or bingo.

However, the feedback from the testers from the target group, families with children, was devastating. The players found the minigames boring and dull. Apparently, nobody at Nintendo expected the game to do so badly in the play tests. Some developers have even concluded that releasing the game in its current state could damage Nintendo’s reputation as a publisher.

At the moment it remains unclear how Nintendo will proceed with Everybody’s 1-2 switch. It is conceivable that the game will appear as a bonus for Nintendo Online. Nintendo may also refrain from publication altogether, even if that is considered rather unlikely according to Khan. Nintendo itself has not yet commented on the report.
