The most expensive MMORPG character sold for €8,800 – made WoW history

In some MMORPGs like World of Warcraft it is forbidden, in others it is allowed. Trading real money and characters is an issue in almost every online game. But what was actually the most expensive MMORPG character ever sold? We at MeinMMO have done some research.

A clear statement can hardly be made: A major problem quickly became clear to us during the research – it is difficult to make a clear statement. This is mainly due to the fact that in most titles this trade is forbidden and the buyers and sellers try as much as possible to keep it undetected. In addition, you can have different interpretations of what was actually the most expensive.

We would therefore not only like to show you our idea of ​​the most expensive trade, but also mention some other deals that would have deserved this title under different conditions. For example, there are also deals that took place via cryptocurrencies or those that were worth much more than their selling price.

Furthermore, some characters are for sale on certain websites for more than €8,800. However, since these have apparently not yet been bought, they are not mentioned here either. Also, our article is only about characters. Objects, buildings and “places” sometimes achieved much higher values.

Villain in WoW changes hands for €8,800 – Gets banned immediately

What was sold? The deal, which we classify in our research as the most expensive MMORPG character sale ever, happened back in 2007. It was the villain Zeuzo, who certainly says something to many WoW players. The night elf character was level 70, the highest rank that could be achieved in 2007.

Zeuzo carried many extremely rare items that could only be obtained by completing various quests and difficult bosses. This included the then-coveted Twin Blades of Azzinoth, which could be obtained by defeating Illidan Stormrage.

Like the side therichest.com reported, the account had to be sold at the time because its owner was having financial difficulties. Zeuzo was one of the best villains in the entire game in 2007, which is why sales of the coveted character could reach large sums of money.

Several sources speak of $9,500, which corresponds to around €8,800. But there is also a source that only speaks of $9,000, which would not change the record.

How did Blizzard react? Trading accounts or items for real money is prohibited in World of Warcraft. The operator of the MMORPG acted accordingly and banned Zeuzo’s account just a few days after the handover. This primarily annoyed the buyer, but many players were also sad that Zeuzo was no longer found in WoW.

Character in Pay2Earn-Grinder is sold for €127,000

How does the sum come about? In the MMORPG and Pay2Earn grinder MIR4 you not only play for fun, but also fight for a cryptocurrency. You can then, at least in theory, sell this cryptocurrency for real money. Even though the currency is currently falling, many people play the game to earn a few euros.

Or you don’t exchange the hard-earned cryptocurrency for euros, but rather buy a character. In this case, it was a level 104 Lancer with a power score of 175,730. He changed hands on December 22, 2021 for 13,000 of the so-called WEMIX. At the time of trading, that was around €127,000.

Currently, on June 8, 2022, the WEMIX stands at €3.15, which would correspond to a character value of €40,950 if the tokens were sold. But since we can’t understand whether these WEMIX were ever made into real money, the expensive Lancer gets only one mention here.

How does the developer react? Not at all. In MIR4, trading in characters is not only allowed, the operator even offers its own in-game platform through which characters can be bought and offered for WEMIX. The deal should therefore have been safe and to the full satisfaction of both sides.
