Warzone 2 is definitely coming in 2022, but you can’t take anything from Warzone

Call of Duty Warzone 2 is slated for release in 2022, shortly after Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty Warzone 2 is slated for release in 2022, shortly after Modern Warfare 2.

Activision not only wants to release Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 this year, but also the new Warzone. At least so far, this has been called Warzone 2.0 and has been confirmed for a release in 2022. More specifically, it’s set to release shortly after Modern Warfare 2. But that’s not all we now know about the new battle royale. The plan is to introduce a completely new inventory with new camos and so on, so you can’t transfer anything from the first Warzone.

Warzone 2 will appear shortly after CoD Modern Warfare 2

Announcements rain down: There’s a lot going on in Call of Duty and more to come. This year’s offshoot Modern Warfare 2 (not to be confused with Modern Warfare 2!) not only has an official release date, but the campaign has already been revealed with a lot of fanfare. What do we know so far about Warzone 2? But some new details have now also been announced about the Battle Royale offshoot. On the one hand there is the release period, which has now been narrowed down. The rumors that Warzone 2 will be postponed to 2023 do not (yet) seem to be true. Apart from that, there is probably completely separate content, progress, inventories and so on from the first one (via: official Call of Duty site).

  • Release period: According to the official Call of Duty Twitter channel, Warzone 2.0 will appear “shortly after the launch” of Modern Warfare 2.
  • Separate progress: The old and the new Warzone are not merged, there is new content, new progression systems and a separate inventory. This means that you have to part with your beloved skins and camos, but you can earn new ones.
  • Common engine: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are said to share the same graphics engine, which provides more consistency.
  • Old Warzone continues: The previous CoD Warzone should be continued as a separate experience and also receive new progression opportunities.
  • Mobile Warzone is also coming: All good things come in threes and accordingly a separate Warzone game will also be released for iOS and Android.
  • Ricochet Anti Cheat should be used in the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 as well as in Warzone 2.0 directly at the launch.

New sandbox mode? Another Call of Duty mode remains in the dark, which will be revealed in detail at some point in the near future. We don’t know the details yet, but it sounds like it could be some kind of PvPvE shooter variant à la Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown. There were always rumors about such a Call of Duty mode and now it could possibly belong to Warzone 2 or Modern Warfare 2.

What are you looking forward to more: Warzone 2 or Modern Warfare 2?
