Berserk: Legendary manga will be completed after author’s death
On May 6, 2021, the manga and anime scene was shocked, and even some gaming communities like that of Final Fantasy 14: Kentaro Miura died unexpectedly at the age of 54. The Japanese manga artist was famous for his Berserk series, which began in 1989. With its dark world, it was the inspiration for many game series – especially the FromSoftware games (Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Elden Ring), but also Dragon’s Dogma, which might get a sequel. Since then, along with the loss of a true legend of the manga world, fans have also had to contend with one possibility: is that why Berserk will never be completed? Work on the manga has been halted indefinitely due to his death. But now there is confirmation: Berserk is coming to an end, thanks to a friend of Kentaro Miura.
Berserk: The late author’s childhood friend finishes the manga
We owe it all Kouji Mori, a childhood friend of Miura. Over the years, he was often the contact person for the manga author when it came to plot details. So he consulted Miura again and again when it came to the course of the story about Guts, Griffith, Kjaskar & Co. That’s why Mori also knows “the story of berserke to the end”. After the death of his friend, he initially considered whether he would simply deal with the ending in an interview, an article or with illustrations (he is also a draftsman himself). However, these methods seemed insufficient to him. Therefore, he works with Studio Gaga and Miura’s assistants to finish the manga.

No new ideas, just implementing the words of the Berserk author
In a lengthy statement, Mori emphasizes that he won’t add anything to the story: “I will only write the episodes that Miura spoke to me about. I will not embellish them. I will not write episodes that I do not remember clearly. I will only write the lines and stories that Miura described to me It won’t be perfect, of course. Still, I think I can almost tell the story that Miura wanted to tell.”
Fantastia Arc is completed in six chapters
However, the current adventures of the manga are still being completed: on June 24, 2022, the next of six chapters that will mark the end of the Fantasia arc will be released. Then the new arc begins. Miura knows that his ending of Berserk will not live up to a finale Miura personally created. “Many of you may not be entirely happy with Berserk, which was written without Miura, but we hope you will all keep our thoughts.”
