Starfield finally shows a lot of gameplay, but all I can think about is the spaceships

Starfield has been postponed, hopefully avoiding a Cyberpunk 2077 disaster.

It wasn’t that long ago that Starfield was pushed back to 2023. Nevertheless, Bethesda’s new big RPG made an appearance at the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022. And what a. Because almost 10 minutes of gameplay from the role-playing game were shown, which already give a first impression of what we can expect from the game.

In Starfield we explore an entire galaxy on foot or in a spaceship in the year 2330, land on planets and complete missions. In the gameplay scenes, among other things, you can see the barren wasteland of the moon Kreet, where we have to reach a base and collect materials there. Among other things, giant beetles and space pirates stand in our way. We can scan the environment for resources and are also made aware of dangers.

There’s also action in Starfield, as evidenced by the shootouts against the space pirates. The AI doesn’t make a particularly clever impression in these scenes, but there are some nice effects to be seen, for example when we shoot at an opponent’s jetpack.

Here’s the Starfield gameplay trailer:

100 systems with 1000 planets

In addition, scenes from the huge city of New Atlantis were also shown. In general, the presentation gave a glimpse of how big Starfield is going to be. There will be 100 star systems with over 1000 planets that we can all control – the overview here sprayed a lot of No Man’s Sky vibes.

Of course there will be a basic storyline in Starfield, but the players should also have enough opportunities to let off steam creatively. Among other things, there is an extremely extensive character editor, you can create your own outposts and – that was my personal highlight – you can also build your own spaceships. Here a number of parts can be exchanged and adjusted in an editor, after which you can steer your vehicle through space.

Starfield is coming to Xbox Series X and PC, the release is for the year 2023 specified.

All announcements from the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase

Of course, Microsoft and Bethesda had a lot more to show at the showcase. Among other things, the next big Forza Motorsport part was revealed in detail and an exclusive partnership with Hideo Kojima was announced. You can find all the announcements from the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase in our overview article.
