Apple could end its lightning port

To reduce cable waste used by devices, the European Union requires Apple and other smartphone manufacturers to support a single charging cable that is common to mobile devices by fall 2024. Under the legislation, virtually all everyday devices that are recharged via a cable will need to be equipped with a port known as USB-C. For its part, Apple has already been preparing to end its special lightning connector and uses the USB-C standard on some MACs and iPads.
