Diablo Immortal is here, but it’s not exactly popular.

Diablo Immortal sets a new negative record: On the review aggregator site Metacritic, Blizzard’s latest game has the worst user score a game has ever had. The average player rating is 0.2, which is the lowest in Metacritic history. This reflects the displeasure of many fans, but should also be treated with caution and is not necessarily representative.

That’s what it’s about: Diablo Immortal is here, but it’s not going down well with many old hardcore Diablo fans. This is mainly due to the opaque in-game shop of the Free2Play title and the tough Pay2Win orientation of the action RPG. Now it’s raining down negative reviews on sites like Metacritic. There, Diablo Immortal now sets the record for being the worst user-rated game ever.

What does that mean? Even if it sounds dramatic at first glance, the low value of 0.2 is simply the average rating of currently 2330 people on Metacritic. This compares to a score of 63 in the Critics Metascore, which is currently based on 7 reviews. You can find our GamePro review of Diablo Immortal here:

Diablo Immortal Review – It’s Hell

Enjoy with caution: The game does not have to be played to rate on Metacritic. In the app stores on iOS and Android smartphones, reviews of Diablo Immortal are much more positive. But again, it remains unclear how much of the game the people behind it actually played – and whether the reviews are all genuine.

It could be because: On the one hand, the disappointment of many Diablo fans from the very beginning certainly plays a major role in these ratings. On the other hand, it could also be a kind of protest in the form of review bombing. This means that many reviews are not based on personal experience with Diablo Immortal at all, but are simply intended to express dissatisfaction and frustration.

Diablo Immortal – Our conclusion after 30 hours

Unless you’re easily tempted by the supposed savings and lures of the Pay2Win store, you should probably just try Diablo Immortal for yourself. At least then you’ll know pretty quickly whether you’re having fun or not. The general tenor is: If you just want to gamble for a few minutes now and then and keep your hands off the real money shop, you can definitely find a little distraction. But an all-encompassing Diablo experience will probably only come again with Diablo 4 – at least we hope so.
