The Alter: Who would you be if your life had been completely different?

11 bit studios, the creators of This War of Mine and Frostpunk, announced a new game over the weekend that addresses a big question: who would you be if you had a different past and made different choices?

The Alter is the name of the adventure in which Jan Dolski is stranded on a remote planet and has to create different versions of himself because he cannot survive there alone. “These aren’t clones,” Game Director Tomasz Kisilewicz points out in the press release, as each version has unique abilities. So they each have their own personalities that have developed from the experiences of different paths in life, and you can completely determine what these paths look like. How exactly this is done is not clear from the announcement. The focus, however, would be on the decisions made in fractions of a second, which affect an entire life.

11 bit announces The Alter as a continuation of the studio’s motto of developing entertaining games that also convey meaning, and in fact the team that was responsible for This War of Mine has been working on it for three years. The title has only been announced for PC at the moment, and it does not yet have a release date.
