Gamescom 2022: The next big publisher jumps off
This year’s Gamescom will take place from August 24th to 28th in the Cologne exhibition halls. This year, visitors can finally visit the various stands again and play numerous titles with their own hands. Ticket sales started a few days ago, but overall the game fair will probably be a little emptier this year. So far, major publishers such as Nintendo, 2K, Rockstar Games, and Wargaming have already confirmed that they will not be attending Gamescom this year.
Activision Blizzard cancels participation in Gamescom
As Games economy reports Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard decided not to appear at Gamescom again this year. This also includes Blizzard Entertainment, so there will be no appearance of Overwatch 2, Diablo 4, or the new WoW expansion Dragonflight at Gamescom.
“After a thorough examination, we have decided that we will unfortunately not be taking part in Gamescom this year. We continue to support the efforts of the association and the games industry in Germany – and we will continue to look for opportunities in the years to come of Gamescom. We are happy that the fans will meet again in Cologne in August for great entertainment. We are very excited about the news and attractions of the fair,reads Activision Blizzard’s statement to Games Economy.
There is no official list of which studios are participating in Gamescom at all. Upon request, however, at least Koch Media, THQ Nordic, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and a few other companies have confirmed their participation. However, if you are looking forward to a huge event like in the years before the pandemic, you will unfortunately be disappointed.
