Bethesda confirms: Fallout 5 is coming! But there is also bad news

Fallout 5 is coming - but when?

Fallout 5 is coming – but when?

Bethesda will once again be working on a “real” Fallout – a single-player RPG in an open world. This is not a surprise and was confirmed shortly after Fallout 76 launched. But now Todd Howard got a little more specific and revealed the studio’s rough roadmap for the next few years. Unfortunately, despite the confirmation, it looks like we’ll have to wait a very long time for Fallout 5.

Fallout 5 release probably not in this decade

When could Fallout 5 be released? The good news is that Bethesda has the development of Fallout 5 firmly on schedule, like Howard at one Interviewed by IGN approved. The bad news is that work on the title isn’t scheduled to begin until Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 are complete.

As you know, TES 6 is still only in pre-production, and the team can only be scaled up to its full strength after the launch of Starfield:

Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and we’ll be developing Fallout 5 after that, so our calendar is very busy for a long time. We also have a few other projects that we take a look at from time to time.

What does that mean in years? The development of Starfield started in late 2015. If the release can be met in the first half of 2023, that would be seven and a half years of development time. At this rate, TES 6 wouldn’t be out until 2030, and Fallout 5 wouldn’t come until well into the next decade, at the earliest for the next-gen Xbox.

Howard consoles the fans: “[Unsere Spiele] take a while,” says Todd Howard in the interview. “I wish they came out sooner, I really do. We’re trying our best, but we want them to be as good as possible for everyone.” So the quality shouldn’t suffer because Bethesda is throwing the games onto the market as quickly as possible just to satisfy the fans. Even if that means that we may not see Fallout 5 for over ten years.

More Bethesda news:

The path for a Fallout spin-off could still be open

There could still be a way out to make us happy with a single-player fallout earlier – by having another studio take over the development. Howard doesn’t rule out that scenario: “We’ve worked with other developers before – I can’t say what’s going to happen. You know, we have a sheet of paper that says how we envision Fallout 5.”

Is New Vegas 2 Coming? Maybe this sheet will go back to Obsidian, who developed a real fan favorite with Fallout: New Vegas and now, like Bethesda, belongs to Microsoft Game Studios. There are said to be internal talks about such a project, but Obsidian is currently busy with Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2.
