Fallout 5: Is official – and will be released after The Elder Scrolls 6

Fallout 5 (Rollenspiel) von Bethesda / Microsoft

The good news: Bethesda hasn’t shelved the Fallout brand. Fallout 5 is officially on the agenda of Bethesda Game Studios. The bad news: It will be released after The Elder Scrolls 6.

Probably no more fallout this decade

Admittedly, this announcement is not a complete surprise. Nonetheless, it’s an exciting glimpse into Bethesda Game Studios’ long-term plans, which are currently in the home stretch for their next game, Starfield, which is due out in 2023.

According to a statement by Todd Howard in an interview with IGN, Fallout 5 is definitely in the pipeline. Probably not in this decade, though. Because the development of Fallout 5 will probably only pick up speed after the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 – and according to the last bit of information that is only in pre-production.

Still good news

Accordingly, a release of The Elder Scrolls 6 before 2024-2025 is unlikely to be expected. Which puts a release of Fallout 5 into the fairly distant future. Nevertheless, this little revealing news holds a glimmer of hope for Fallout fans.

The Fallout 76 debacle probably couldn’t damage the brand permanently. The ongoing support of the online role-playing game from 2018 and this clear positioning on Fallout 5 indicate that Bethesda is still planning Fallout with a strong brand.
