According to Bethesda, Starfield’s main quest will be longer than previous titles from the developer studio. More precisely, it should be about 20 percent larger. This corresponds to a length of 30 to 40 hours. However, as with Skyrim and Co., that shouldn’t matter much because you spend a lot more time with the open world and all the trappings anyway than with the main story.

Starfield has a main quest that will keep you busy for around 30 to 40 hours

How long is Starfield? In an interview with IGN Todd Howard from Bethesda also talks about the Starfield season, among other things. Or about how long it takes to finish the main quest and story of the open world RPG – provided you really only do this and don’t let it distract you. If you only play the main story, it should take about 30 to 40 hours.

But of course this varies: While some proceed calmly, others will rush through the story. Accordingly, it is of course difficult to say how long all this will take. But at least Todd Howard explains that the Starfield main story is about 20 percent longer than that of, for example, Skyrim or Fallout 4 fails. But this is still being worked on, so it can still change before the launch.

“More Quests”: Overall, there will probably be more quests in the main story than was the case with previous Bethesda games. Todd Howard suggests that if the main quest in previous titles was roughly 25 hours long, Starfield could take something like 30, “maybe 40” hours. But as already mentioned, this is not yet set in stone.

Does that even matter? Especially with regard to Skyrim, the answer should be clear: no. If the open world of Starfield becomes similarly intriguing, players will likely get lost in it again and in the many possible sidequests and side activities. Then the main story is quickly forgotten and the playing time climbs to dizzying heights in no time at all, regardless of the duration of the main quest.
