WhatsApp finally rolls out chat transfer from Android to iOS

offer

WhatsApp users will soon be able to transfer their chat history and other data from an Android smartphone to an iPhone. The parent company Meta is currently testing the feature in a beta and rolling it out to all users in several waves. Moving from iOS to certain Android devices has been possible for quite some time.

The ability to easily transfer data from WhatsApp from an iOS to an Android device and vice versa has been one of the most requested features for years. It has been possible to transfer from iOS to certain Android devices since last year, but previously it was not possible to migrate WhatsApp data in the opposite direction – that is about to change.

As Mark Zuckerberg announced on Facebook, all WhatsApp users should soon be able to transfer their chat history, photos, videos and voice messages from their Android smartphone to an iPhone. The prerequisites for this are explained an official FAQ.

This is how the move from Android to iOS works

First things first: The transfer of WhatsApp data from Android to iOS does not work via the messenger itself, but is integrated into the “Transfer to iOS” app. Furthermore, the following requirements must be met:

  • At least Android 5 must be installed on the Android device.
  • At least iOS 15.5 must be installed on the iPhone.
  • WhatsApp for iOS version 2.22.10.70 or higher is installed on the iPhone.
  • WhatsApp for Android version 2.22.7.74 or higher is installed on the Android device.
  • The same phone number must be used on the iPhone as on the Android device.
  • iPhone must be brand new or factory reset to pair with the Transfer to iOS app.
  • Both devices must be connected to a power source.
  • Both devices must be in the same WLAN or alternatively the Android device can be connected to the hotspot of the iPhone.

If all the requirements are met, users only have to open the “Transfer to iOS” app and they will then guide you through the entire migration process. Important: After the data has been transferred to the iPhone, it is not yet in iCloud. Users have to set up the iCloud backup themselves in WhatsApp.
