Weekend Question: Which non-E3 game are you looking forward to the most?

E3 2022 is cancelled: the game event does not return digitally either (1)

At first I was disappointed by all the announcements about this year’s Summer Game Fest. There wasn’t a moment when a new game or a new trailer really knocked my socks off. However, when I looked at the lists of announced games, a few interesting titles stood out. It’s even hard for me to pick a clear personal winner now.

My most anticipated game is definitely Hollow Knight: Silksong. However, there was only a short trailer for this, the announcement of a Game Pass release and no release date. If you want to believe Xbox, then the title is supposed to be released in June 2023 at the latest, but overall there was simply not enough to put it at the top. I was also enthusiastic about the announcement of Street Fighter 6. I find the fifth offshoot of the series ugly, but the art style of 6 completely picked me up. Naturally, as a die-hard fan of fighting games, from titles like Them’s Fighting Herds to big names like Tekken, I’m pretty excited to see where Capcom will take their series with Street Fighter 6.

I was also happy when Die by the Blade was announced, because in my opinion you can never have enough fighting games with a fresh concept. Stray has been around for a while, but that didn’t stop the title from delighting me once again in Sony’s State of Play. Neon White, the “Speedrunning First Person Shooter”, has been on my wish list for a long time and I was pleased to receive a release date. Then there’s Nightingale, the survival game from former BioWare developers that just grabs me. And how could I forget the awesome looking rogue-lite Cult of the Lamb? Oh, and then there was more to the upcoming Rain World DLC!

There are also a few games that, while not of interest to me in and of themselves, the developers and publishers behind the projects have never disappointed me in the past. These include Skate Story and The Plucky Squire, both of which were announced during Devolver Direct. Redfall hasn’t convinced me yet, but Arkane Studios almost never releases a bad game. As does Klei Entertainment’s Rotwood project and 11 bit Studios’ The Alter.

Finally, there are titles like Persona 5 Royal for the PC, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and of course Diablo 4, which I’m really looking forward to. While it wasn’t a reveal for me on the scale that the first Starfield gameplay trailer was for many others, overall the non-E3 this year brought me some exciting games that I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on.
