Twitch streamer Asmongold banned for using racist words on stream

The streamer got himself banned on June 11 for streaming Activision Blizzard’s latest game, Diablo Immortal. During the stream, the unmoderated chat of the game could be seen for a short time, in which racist terms could be read. However, this was not the chat from Asmongold viewers, but the chat that was visible in the game and therefore could not be moderated by the streamer. According to his own statement, Asmongold tried not to pay any further attention to the racist terms in the stream.

Asmongold feels unfairly treated by Twitch

Apparently, this was reason enough for Twitch moderators to ban Asmongold’s second channel, zackrawrr. Asmongold was then no longer allowed to stream on his main channel. Twitch may have interpreted his behavior in ignoring the blatant racism in the chat as if the streamer were allowing or endorsing those terms. In a statement video, Asmongold then spoke out to contradict the allegation.

Twitch ignored Asmongold’s objection until it went public

To avoid the ban, Asmongold contacted Twitch directly and lodged a written appeal against the fine. However, the platform stuck to its decision and upheld the ban. The streamer then published a 10-minute video on YouTube to publicly address the situation. Asmongold’s statement quickly garnered attention and has had over 1.8 million views to date. Only a few hours after the streamer made the topic public, the Twitch platform reacted and lifted the ban.

Asmongold settles accounts with the platform

When the streamer was able to stream again after the ban was lifted, he spoke to his viewers about the situation. In particular, he criticized the fact that he first had to make his request public with a video in order to get a reaction from Twitch at all. In his stream, he called the platform’s behavior “ridiculous,” “unprofessional,” and called the person responsible for his ban an “idiot.” Nevertheless, the streamer finally thanked him for withdrawing his ban.

Twitch often causes resentment among streamers

Asmongold had repeatedly expressed his dissatisfaction with Twitch over the past few years and had repeatedly taken time out from the platform. There was regular speculation as to whether he would even finally turn his back on Twitch. It is not uncommon for some streamers to be misunderstood by Twitch and even uncomfortable on the platform. Just last year, streamer Pokimane took a break after feeling burned out.
