Twitch streamer sinks over €15,000 into Diablo Immortal until he gets the item he wants

Twitch-Streamer nimmt sich vor, ein Jahr nicht gebannt zu werden – Flog dann zweimal raus

Streamer Quin69 has been trying to get a 5/5 star gem in Diablo Immortal for days. He succeeded after investing over €15,000 in the game.

The situation in brief:

  • Diablo Immortal has been criticized since release for its strong monetization system, which many players have labeled as predatory and Pay2Win.
  • This caused the game to be bombarded with negative ratings on the Metacritic review platform, making it the lowest rated game there.
  • Twitch streamer Quin69 is best known for his Path of Exile streams, but is also active in all forms of Diablo. Currently especially in Diablo Immortal.
  • He’s committed to getting a 5/5 star jewel, no matter what the cost.

After about two weeks since the release, he now found out exactly what it costs.

“Thank you for this authentic Diablo experience”

Quin69 says: In a self-experiment, Quin69 set out to show what a rip-off Diablo Immortal is. He’s aiming for a 5/5 star gem. They are among the most powerful items in the game and therefore also rare.

Quin69 has therefore decided to put money into the €15 Rifts until he gets his desired item. That cost the streamer over 25,000 New Zealand dollars, which is the equivalent of €15,121.57.

Taking to Twitter, Quin sarcastically celebrated his “win” with the comment, “Thank you Blizzard and Diablo Immortal for this authentic Diablo experience.”

In the podcast Allcraft of the streamer Asmongold he also spoke about Diablo Immortal and commented on the game as follows:

The game was in development 4 years, right? It’s a reskin from an existing game and they’ve packed in the identical algorithm that generates the rifts. That should have taken a few months. I’m not a developer, but that’s just laziness.

It’s a mobile game with the same code and assets as Diablo 3. And I’m wondering: what took them 4 years to do?

Quin believes that the developers have invested more time in the concept and implementation of Diablo Immortal’s monetization than in the game itself.

Great success despite criticism

Here’s how Diablo Immortal is doing financially: Although criticism and bad reviews hail from all sides, Diablo Immortal seems to be doing very well financially. It makes more than $10 million in sales within the first week of release.

That number has more than doubled since then. A whopping $24 million in sales were collected from the tracking page AppMagic reported. Diablo Immortal also had over 5 million downloads within the first two weeks of launch. China doesn’t seem to be included in the figures yet.

What is your opinion on the monetization of Diablo Immortal? Have you already spent money yourself, do you play it Free2Play or do you keep your hands off it completely? Tell us in the comments.

In the face of the criticism, Blizzard developers have already assured that the financing model of Diablo 4, which is eagerly awaited by many, is different from that of Immortal:
