Overwatch 2: You can’t gamble without a cell phone number
It has been known since last week that the multiplayer shooter Overwatch 2 will be released on October 4, 2022 as a Free2Play title in Early Access. Already on June 28th is the starting signal for another beta phase, in which the players can get a more detailed picture of what is happening in the game in advance. So far so good. But did you know that you are compelling need a cell phone numberto be able to play Overwatch 2?
Where can this information be found?
It’s not about one belated April Fool’s joke or a baseless rumor, but details straight from the official website. More specifically, you will find a corresponding passage in the Battle.net online shop as a footnote in the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint Pack, which you can buy for 39.99 euros. This bundle not only contains the predecessor Overwatch in the Legendary Edition, but also the premium battle pass for Overwatch 2 and a guaranteed access to the beta test. One passage in particular is particularly interesting:
Internet connection, Battle.net® Desktop App, and Battle.net account required to play. To play Overwatch 2 To play, you must have a cell phone number associated with your Battle.net account.”
What does this mean for players?
It is therefore imperative that in your settings for the Battle.net a valid cell phone number stored, which will be linked to your account in the future. Apparently this is not the only thing that happens for safety reasonsbut is supposed to ensure that the number of Smurfern, trolls and other toxic players to reduce.
Currently it is only possible a cell phone number with only a single Battle.net account to link. Wants a player multiple accounts for Overwatch 2 create, he needs demnach more numbers of this kind. Due to Pre-Paid Cards and similar offers, this is not a major obstacle in principle. Still, it could deter a variety of spoilsports.
