PS Plus Extra: games, costs, start – everything about the new PS5 subscription

PS Plus Extra is the middle tariff of Sony’s new subscription model for the PS4 and PS5. These games and bonuses are given to players and game rings with the service.

Hamburg – Sony is converting its PS Plus. From June 22, 2022, the subscription service will be divided into three different levels. Players can now choose between PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium. For many gamers, the middle tariff PS Plus Extra seems to be the most promising for the domestic PS5. But what do you really get for extras with the new PS Plus tariff?

PS Plus Extra: spoiled for choice between the subscription models

Which PS Plus subscriptions can you choose from? If you want to be part of the new PS Plus, you have to choose between the three tariffs PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. Once a subscription has been completed, it cannot be downgraded until it is completed, but it can be increased at any time. So if you choose a PS Plus Essential subscription, you can switch to PS Plus Extra or Premium at any time – but it doesn’t work the other way around. How much is PS Plus Extra? PS Plus Extra is the middle tariff of the new subscription model. If you want to treat yourself to the service, you have to pay 13.99 euros per month. If you buy three months of PS Plus Extra at once, Sony charges 39.99 euros. A full annual subscription costs 99.99 euros.

If you opt for 12 months of PS Plus Extra, you can save almost 70 euros compared to the monthly payment. As was already common practice with the old PS Plus, third-party retailers such as Amazon may also offer the subscription from time to time. It can therefore be worthwhile to open your eyes before buying.

PS Plus Extra: Access Up to 400 games with the subscription

What are the benefits of PS Plus Extra? Without a doubt, PS Plus Extra’s biggest selling point is access to a catalog of up to 400 games for PS4 and PS5. All games in the PS Plus Extra collection can be downloaded and played as a subscriber at no extra charge. In addition, paying users receive the same benefits as a subscription to PS Plus Essential:

Is PS Plus Extra worth it? If you want access to Sony’s game library for PS4 and PS5, PS Plus Extra is probably the best choice at the moment. The more expensive PS Plus Premium subscription still has some minor flaws to contend with. The surcharge of three euros per month is currently only worthwhile in individual cases – if you like retro games, Sony offers a bunch of additional games here.

When will PS Plus Extra be available? European players will have access to the new PS Plus from June 22, 2022. At the same time, Sony’s big PS Plus switch shouldn’t be flipped for all gamers. On his site the PS5 manufacturer has therefore already announced that the changeover for some members can last until June 23rd.
