Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2: Parts 3 & 4 should also get remasters

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2: Parts 3 & 4 should also get remasters

The double remaster Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 (from 27.99€ at buy) became an artistic and commercial success. But why hasn’t there been a sequel to this day? Tony Hawk himself has now revealed it.

When the very first part of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater appeared in 1999, the starting shot was fired for one of the best-known and most successful sports game brands ever. And not a few felt inspired to put the controller aside in between and stand on the roller board themselves. In 2020, a remaster of the first two parts came onto the market, which was “technically and playfully very successful”, as we judged in our test for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. But why then never appeared a direct follow-up project?

No remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 & 4 because of Activision

The eponymous skateboarding legend himself recently performed at a Twitch stream by Andy Gentile and chatted a little about the inside out. He revealed that until the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 there was also a plan to remaster the next two parts.

However, only a little later the developer studio Vicarious Visions was merged with Blizzard Entertainment at the behest of the parent company Activision. Then they looked for a new developer for the project. But Activision didn’t trust anyone as much as Vicarious once did. According to Hawk, the company listened to several suggestions: “And they didn’t like anything they heard and that was it.”

In the end, all that remains is the hope that this will change again. Tony Hawk agrees: “I wish there was some way to get it back. But who knows? Maybe when the dust clears we’ll figure it out. You never know. I also never imagined that we would do 1+2 20 years later.”
