Guild Wars 2: Easy Mode for Raids – Community Dream Come True!
Raids (aka Raids) have been part of Guild Wars 2 since the Heart of Thorns expansion, and for some veterans they represent the ultimate endgame challenge. They bring GW2 the closest to classic MMO fare, with tricky boss fights in stunningly designed raid wings . But the problem: too few players dare to enter this content! Some just find them too difficult, others don’t want to invest the time, and others blame the toxic raider community. However, developers know they need to make raids more accessible. This should finally be possible soon – through the so-called “encouragement system”.
Strikes vs. Raids: The new instances from End of Dragons should have raid level
What is the encouragement system in GW2’s raids?
in the Cameron Rich explains in a new blog post from Arenanet, the leading systems designer, what the simplified mode of raids is all about. Each week (starting June 28, 2022) one of the seven raids will receive the optional Encouraged Mode. When active, defeating a boss grants bonuses to health, damage dealt, and healing received. These encouragement stacks can provide up to 100 percent more health, 50 percent damage bonus, and 50 percent healing. When the boss is done, the stacks disappear again, except for one.
The developers emphasize: “Lethal combat mechanics are still deadly and players must still respect them, but this system gives newcomers to the raid a chance to learn about them over time.” So you should learn the mechanics of blatant bosses like Dhuum after all.

Hopefully players must keep trying fights seriously
The community is happy that players finally have a promising opportunity to learn about raids. Whereby skeptics directly have a theory of how this system is used in practice. So they suspect that groups simply let themselves die several times with the chat command /gg (which quickly causes fights to fail if you want to restart) in order to quickly get the stacks. However, Arenanet developer Grouch already emphasizes: “When we design new features/content, we always ask ourselves, ‘How are players going to try to abuse/exploit this?’ We don’t always catch everything at first go, but quite a lot :)”
Accordingly, there is a good chance that someone at Arenanet will implement measures to prevent players from getting the encouragement buff without serious effort. For example, how about a minimum duration for a boss fight fail? If the attempt lasts far too short, there is no bonus – that would certainly help. Or what do you mean? How could the developers fix that? What do you think of the encouragement system anyway? Write us in the comments!
