Mysterious collector has skins on Steam for 2 million euros - but hackers take his treasure

The German content creator without Pixel is known for dealing with skins in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in his videos on YouTube and in Twitch streams. Now, in a post on Twitter, he pointed out that an anonymous Steam account containing some of the tactical shooter’s most valuable camouflages worth over $2 million has been hacked.

What was stolen? German Twitch streamer ohnePixel posted on Twitter yesterday, June 21, that the Steam account of a CS:GO skin collector was hacked. However, it is not known who is behind the stolen account, known by the alias ‘HFB’.

The hack is said to have sold or transferred more than $2 million worth of tactical shooter skins.

According to ohnePixel, the collection is one of the most expensive inventories of all time. It therefore includes some camouflage that is considered legendary. The following skins are cited by ohnePixel as examples of the stolen content:

  • Souvenir Dragon Lores
  • no star karambit
  • #1 Blue Gem Karambit

The #1 Blue Gem Karambits alone is loud Dexerto Worth 1.2 million euros. This shows how valuable skins in CS:GO still are today, which is probably partly due to the fact that the e-sports title is still one of the 10 best free-to-play shooters in 2022.

Steam as a savior in need?

What is Steam doing about the hack? During the course of the Twitter thread, ohnePixel pointed out that an estimated half of the skins were sold quickly and the other half is on the hacker’s account. Furthermore, ohnePixel Steam offers to contact HFB in order to speed up the resolution of the incident.

Twitter user @CrystalChrisYT, meanwhile, pointed out that Steam Support appears to be manually banning people who purchased any of the stolen content.

As Twitter user @zipelCS noted in a tweet, the stolen items would probably also disappear from the buyer’s inventory. He speculates that Steam will reverse the transactions.

Below are the Twitter threads from @ohnePixel, @CrystalChrisYT, and @zipel:

How important are skins in CS:GO? In the tactical shooter, many players and collectors as well as the content creator without Pixel attach great importance to skins and are willing to spend large sums of money on their favorite camouflages. It wasn’t until April 2022 that a player showed just how slim the chance of rare content is when he revealed what was in €200,000 loot boxes.

But while many CS:GO players are left disappointed and don’t get rare skins, one of the biggest streamers in the world didn’t realize how lucky they were opening the loot boxes when they pulled ultra rare weapon camouflages.
