Pokémon fan builds such a beautiful Alabastia diorama that we immediately want to play a round of red/blue
The 9th generation of the franchise will be released later this year with Pokémon Crimson and Crimson. It all started in October 1999 when the first games, Pokémon Red and Blue, finally hit the European market. There have been countless sequels, spin-offs, and remakes since then, but to date, Gen 1 is probably the most nostalgic for those who were there from the start.
So it’s no wonder that the pocket monsters and the setting of red and blue still enjoy cult status today and animate fans to creative projects like this particularly pretty diorama.
Diorama with its own style
It’s all about this: Salt_Truth_611 posted a short clip about his project on the Pokémon subreddit. You can see Alabastia, the village where our journey with Ash Ketchum through the Kanto region began. Here we took our first steps and were allowed to choose between Squirtle, Charmander and Bulbasaur before we were sent on an adventure together with our rival Gary by Professor Oak to complete his PokéDex.
But just take a look at the diorama for yourself:

Style reminiscent of modern 2D RPGs: Despite the pixelated look, the diorama looks slicker than the original versions of Red and Blue that appeared on the original Game Boy back in the day. The shiny plastic plate that acts as the base is particularly striking. It gives the whole model that certain something.
In general, parallels to the “2D-HD” art style of games like Octopath Traveler or Triangle Strategy can be seen instead of the Game Boy variant. By the way, Salt_Truth_611 is far from finished. The next step is to recreate Route 1 and work on the water effects.

Fan project whets the appetite for a new red/blue remake
Another project proves that the 1st generation will always be in the minds of the Pokémon community. With a mock-up trailer, a fan shows us what a remake of Pokémon Red and Blue could look like. It’s not about imposing the most modern technology and realistic art style on the classic. Instead, the look is based on Game Freak’s drawings, which we were able to admire in the instructions, for example.
That makes us want a cool remake that combines modern technology with the charm of the originals and thus picks up fans of the 1st generation as well as players who joined later.
How do you like the style of this diorama? Do you also feel like new remakes?
