Fall Guys Releases Free-To-Play, Servers Give Up Directly

Fall Guys Appears Free-To-Play on All Platforms, But Disappears from Steam (1)

June 21st was quite a big day for Mediatonic’s Battle Royale Fall Guys. The title finally made its way to Nintendo Switch and Xbox, allowing cross-play between the different versions and becoming free-to-play on top of that. What did it all cost? The Steam version, because the game can no longer be found on Valve’s download platform. However, users who have already purchased Fall Guys there will continue to receive updates.

Too much cake on the Fall Guys servers

All this stuff must have been something that a lot of battle royale enthusiasts have been waiting for, as Fall Guys’ free-to-play launch hasn’t exactly gone smoothly. Many players reported long wait times, and the official Fall Guys Twitter account confirmed that the game’s servers were experiencing some issues. A cake dropped on the servers is listed here as the “official” reason, but resourceful players claim it could also be due to the massive number of new players.

After matchmaking didn’t work for a long time, player-created lobbies were also disabled. Some players were visibly frustrated with the situation and accused Mediatonic of not properly preparing for the situation. The Fall Guys account’s tweets suggest that the company really didn’t anticipate such a large run, so they may have tried humor.
