Player sells gold in WoW for 46,000 euros - put everything in Diablo Immortal to destroy Pay2Win whales

Diablo Immortal gets a lot of criticism for its Pay2Win aspects. Now a player has found an unusual way to finance the whole thing: World of Warcraft.

Here’s how he did it: In the Diablo Immortal subreddit, user “daymeeuhn” (via reddit) that he used a total of 600,000,000 – that is 600 million – units of WoW gold to improve his Immortal character. In the game he calls himself “Naecabon”.

Getting that much gold in WoW is in itself an impossibility, says Naecabo. It only worked because he was able to use codes from old loot cards that he had collected at Blizzard events ages ago and that have since been gathering dust in a drawer.

But now the moment had come to use them: “I spent May trading old codes for Spektraltigers and such ingame for gold using Discord Markets,” he explains: “I’ve never had RMT (real money transactions) used when it came to the gold and I had no interest in selling the gold for US dollars,” the player said.

He understands that gold can also be perceived as a currency with real money value, but from his point of view it is very difficult. Because the sale of WoW gold can lead to bans. It just wouldn’t be worth it. And from his experience, he also describes selling the loot codes as almost impossible and one can easily be cheated.

After more than 3 weeks of swapping: “Cash whales, I’m after you”

The starting signal was the announcement of the PC port and over time 600 million gold were collected, describes “Naecabon”.

  • The player exchanged all the WoW gold for WoW tokens. That lasted over three weeks.
  • He converted the tokens into Battle.net credits – around $15 per token.
  • This credit, in turn, flowed into Diablo Immortal.

According to the player, he received a total of 3,243 WoW tokens for his gold, which he converted, which corresponds to the equivalent of $48,645 – or €46,236.59.

With it, he upgraded his Legendary Gems in Diablo Immortal, reaching 7,000 Resonance and completing 2,165 Elder Portals.

The result: An extremely strong character. But why all this?

That is the reason: “I thought it would be really fun to try and create an in-game ‘whale’ character that uses WoW gold as the main funding source. I think it’s funny to flatten a cash whale as a ‘gold whale’.”

A “whale” is generally used to refer to players who gain an advantage in games through very high real investments.

“My character is now a proverbial powerhouse, the cash streamer […] flattens with creepy efficiency,” says the player. “There’s no real reason for it other than to have fun with it. If you see me fighting cash whales in Battlegrounds, you should know that I’m attacking them with World of Warcraft currency as my main funding source,” he says.

He also points to an example of the streamer “JTisallbusiness”, which he encounters in a battleground and immediately destroys. In turn, Naecabon is one of the currently best equipped players (via Twitter).

If at some point he needed to “swipe” to stay relevant, he would weigh his options. But now he wants to “fight the good fight,” he says: “Cash whales, I’m after you.”

What do you think of the action? Do you think it’s good, or is it basically the same as “normal” Pay2Win for you? Please leave us a comment!

Basically, Diablo Immortal is criticized mainly because of its Pay2Win mechanics. A strong Free2Play player recently brought this up again.
