Netflix: This cult comic is getting a series after 30 years

Netflix: Program for July 2022 - all new series and films at a glance

In 1989, Neil Gaiman published the first issue of The Sandman. A total of 75 issues were published up to 1996. Now the famous comic book series is getting its very first Series adaptation – with the streaming provider Netflix. While we only received a new trailer for the show a few days ago, spoke Neil Gaiman in an interview now about the implementation that fans had to wait over 30 years for!

Sandman author waited for the right moment

“I didn’t always think we’d end up here – but I always knew it was an important thing, bad versions [einer Adaption] to stop. Once a bad version is made, it’s hard to come back. It might sound silly, but when I was 14 or 15, my favorite comic was Howard the Duck. […] I was so excited when I heard George Lucas was making a film. And then Animal Hero came out. Howard the Duck became a joke.”

That’s exactly what shouldn’t happen with Sandman, as Neil Gaiman reveals in an interview with Total Film. He also reveals that he already had a few scripts on the table that would have done exactly that. However, the author now seems satisfied with the Netflix project. “I can’t promise it’ll be the Sandman of your dreams, but I can promise I’m proud of what we’ve made.”
