F1 2022: EA and Codemasters announce driver standings

from Alexander Ney
Codemasters’ F1 2022 release date is July 1st. Now the developers and publishers have submitted the driver ratings for the racing simulation to EA. For the first time, Codemasters has changed the corresponding algorithm so that the current driver forms are less dependent on past values.

Codemasters and Electronic Arts, in partnership with Formula 1, have released the F1 22 driver ratings. The dynamic ratings of the in-game My Team mode are updated every few races. For the first time, the developers have changed the corresponding algorithm in such a way that the current driver forms are better reflected and are less dependent on past values. But to go beyond the raw data, Codemasters consulted Formula 1 experts David Croft, Anthony Davidson and Alex Jacques. The trio’s advice was aimed at separating man and machine.

F1 2022: driver rankings in four categories

The drivers’ starting day ratings are composed of data up to and including this year’s Grand Prix de Monaco. In addition to an overall rating, the dynamic ratings are divided into the following four categories:

  • Experience (EXP): This is based on the number of race starts a driver has completed over the course of their career.
  • Racing Skill (RAC): The driver’s ability to work through the field and finish the race higher than the starting position.
  • Awareness (AWA): The less time drivers spend in the steward’s room, the better. Real-world penalties affect the score in this category.
  • Pace (PAC): Favors those closest to the fastest qualifying and race lap times. A driver beating his teammate will also be counted.
  • Rating (RTG): The combination of the four previous ratings; this rating rises and falls throughout the season based on performance.

EA identified the F1-22 driver ratings as a key element of My Team. The 2022 edition now features three starting positions: Newcomer, Midway Challenger, and Championship Contender. In this way it is possible to work your way “from the bottom” or directly “fight for victory”. The PC, Playstation 5/4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One are planned as release platforms for F1 2022. The PC version will be available on both Steam and EA’s Origin store.
