Intel Arc A730M & A770M: Intel benchmarks published – Geforce RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3060 as opponents

Intel has published a reviewers guide in China comparing the performance of the Arc A730M and Arc A770M with two Nvidia GPUs. However, the test methodology raises questions.

Intel’s first notebook GPUs from the Arc series were introduced a long time ago, but so far corresponding products have only appeared on the market in China. According to Tom’s Hardware, a reviewers guide has now also been published there, in which Intel compares the Arc A730M and the Arc A770M with the competition.

Intel vs Nvidia

The mobile version of the Geforce RTX 3050 Ti was chosen as the opponent for the A730M, which is sold with 24 Xe cores and a 1.1 GHz clock. The A770M with its 32 Xe cores and 1.65 GHz, on the other hand, is supposed to compete with the RTX 3060 from the notebook.

It is hardly surprising that Intel sees its own products ahead in both cases. In an FPS comparison from 17 games, the Arc A730M is said to be 13 percent faster than the RTX 3050 Ti, while the Arc A770M is said to be 12 percent faster than the RTX 3060.

It remains to be seen to what extent these results will correspond to practice. In particular, the TDP information provided by Intel raises questions. Apparently no information was given about the power limit of the GPUs, which is why they were possibly operated with the maximum range of 120 W or 150 W. The Geforce RTX 3050 Ti, on the other hand, was operated by Intel with 60 watts, and the Geforce RTX 3060 had 65 watts available. Actually, the two GPUs should use a maximum of 80 and 115 watts respectively.

The comparability is also distorted by the notebooks used. For example, the Arc A730M had a Core i7-12700H and the Arc A770M a Core i9-129000HK, whereas the Geforce graphics cards had to make do with an older Core i7-11800H. This should also distort the performance, so that hardly anything can be said about the actual performance differences between the Arc and Geforce graphics cards based on the published data.
