New Need for Speed multiplayer rumor got me excited for split/second action
The Need for Speed series is currently on hiatus. The last major part of the series, Need for Speed Heat, was released in 2019, but a new offshoot is scheduled to hit the consoles later this year. There are now plenty of rumors about this, among other things, the title should no longer appear for the Last Gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One and will be revealed sometime in July.
Industry insider Tom Henderson recently at eXputer talked about the new Need for Speed part and, in addition to the possible title (Need for Speed: Unbound), also about a multiplayer detail of the upcoming racing game. According to this, it should supposedly be possible to meet up with others online, then drive through the city together and start races at any point.
Interactive elements on the routes?
That may not sound particularly spectacular, but a special feature should come into play through interactive elements on the courses. Among other things, Henderson speaks of a train driving around that blocks certain passages and therefore requires decisions from the players. Depending on the position of the train, you can take a shortcut, for example, but you also risk colliding with the locomotive.
Nothing was said about other interactive elements, but it already paints a picture in my head that I would definitely like to see. Because objects like the train mentioned provide a shot of unpredictability and chaos, which could cause many multiplayer matches to cause strange situations and moments.
When I read the rumor, it also made me think of Split/Second: Velocity. In this racing game, which was released in 2010, the big highlight was that you could interact with certain objects on the edges of the track. For example, detonations could be triggered at the push of a button, which then, for example, caused huge chimneys to crack on the route, which in part changed the entire course.

More action couldn’t hurt
The multiplayer rumor about Need for Speed sounds a bit more solid and not quite as spectacular in comparison, but still gives me hope that the multiplayer of the new part will be more special than that of the last offshoots, which I all only described as “nice ” felt.
More about Need for Speed 2022:
So far, of course, it’s just a rumor that hasn’t been confirmed or denied. If the new Need for Speed is actually presented in July, we should soon have clarity about a lot about the game.
