Twitch: Streamer Ibai breaks viewer record

from Sarah Petzold
2.5 million viewers at the same time, that was the record on Twitch so far – but the Spanish streamer Ibai has now broken it. A special boxing event gave him a rush of fans and lots of new followers.

Spanish-speaking streamers currently dominate the online platform Twitch. Right at the front is Ibai Llanos Garatea, who has now set a new attendance record. Previously, the streamer TheGrefg had clinched this record after delighting 2.5 million fans simultaneously with his stream. But Ibai beat that figure a few days ago.

Huge following thanks to League of Legends and footballer interviews

His stream entitled La Velada Del Año II attracted a total of 3.3 million viewers at the same time. La Velada Del Año II was a live broadcast of a special boxing event at which various well-known streamers and youtubers, as well as the singer David Busstammente, performed.

The second incarnation of last year’s event of the same name proved to be a resounding success for Ibai and shows how big Spanish-speaking Steams have become on Twitch. Ibai itself gained over 400,000 new followers from the event and is now one of the top 5 biggest streamers on the platform with 11.1 million supporters (ahead of xQc and just behind Tfue).

Ibai gained notoriety as a commentator in the e-sports space. He mainly dedicated himself to games like League of Legends, but also plays titles like Fall Guys, Minecraft or Valorant on his channel. Because he was repeatedly allowed to interview well-known Spanish footballers such as Sergio Ramos or Andrés Iniesta on Twitch, he has gained a particularly loyal following among young Spanish football fans.
