CD Projekt Red turns 20: The Witcher developer with birthday challenges

from Alexander Ney
On July 1st, CD Projekt Red celebrated its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the developer of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 has launched a website aimed at the community with challenges and the opportunity to share commemorative images.

In fact, it’s been 20 years since an unnamed Polish programming team cobbled together an RPG called The Witcher. With its release, CD Projekt Red was born, a studio that has since made a name for itself with Cyberpunk 2077 – albeit not only for good. Now, to celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Warsaw-based developer has one special site put online, which wants to encourage the community to celebrate with challenges and the opportunity to share souvenir pictures.

challenges with prizes

On the “20 Years of CD Projekt Red” website, the Witcher maker is putting together a constantly growing birthday gallery from various user submissions. Great screenshots from CD Projekt games are just as welcome here as gamers’ rooms that have disappeared under mountains of The Witcher merch. There will also be “Challenges of the Day” on the site for a while, but these will not be held daily, but rather according to the respective countdown. The current challenge will be current for a little more than two days. Winners of previous challenges are excluded from winning further prizes – a goodie bag celebrating CD Projekt Red’s 20th birthday is currently up for grabs.

The first edition of The Witcher was released in 2007 and was praised by the press for, among other things, that it makes players think and make decisions instead of simply blazing a trail to glory at gunpoint. The RPG’s rendered intro was also nominated for the Visual Effects Society award for Outstanding Prerendered Graphics in a Video Game in its year of release.
