Ryzen 5000: Speculations about more 3D V-Cache CPUs [Gerücht]

from Maximilian Hohm
According to the latest rumors, there is a chance that more AM4 processors with 3D V-cache will be released for socket AM4. In particular, potential models based on Ryzen 9 could keep the platform attractive for a long time to come. Read more about this below.

AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D with stacked 3D V-Cache is one of the fastest gaming CPUs on the current market and has proven that the concept can work. This is accompanied by disadvantages such as limited overclocking and limited adjustable voltages, but AMD seems to want to stick to the concept in the future, although it is not yet clear whether processors with 3D V cache will also be launched directly on the market when the new AM5 platform is launched come.

However, a new rumor about AMD processors is not about the new AM5 platform, but about the popular AM4 platform, which has been on the market since 2017. The well-known leaker “Greymon55” has announced that new low-end AM4 products are to be expected, which should keep the socket attractive, but his statement about Zen3D is more interesting. He confirms that more Zen 3D processors are expected and promises more information in July.

Expansion stages of all other Zen 3 processors with 3D V cache would be conceivable. A potential Ryzen 5 5600X3D would come with a single CCD on 32 MiB regular L3 cache and 64 MiB V-cache. The Ryzen 9 models, which would represent the most powerful stages of socket AM4, have two CCDs, so they could get 64 MiB of regular L3 cache and 128 MiB of V-cache respectively. However, AMD could also equip only one of the CCDs with a V-Cache, which would result in a constellation of 128 MiB instead of 192 MiB L3 cache and still a high gaming performance.
