Apparently EA doesn’t like single-player games: tweet goes viral, spot & malice for the publisher

EA - Singleplayer-Spiele

Publishers and game developers Electronic Arts sent a tweet on Twitter a few days ago, which not only went viral within a very short time, but also a huge avalanche of anger among the players.

The focus of the tweet is the quite sensitive topic single player games. In other words, games that have a pure single-player campaign and are therefore the exact opposite of multiplayer titles such as Battlefield 2042 form.

EA shoots against single player games, community is outraged

What happened? EA had on the official Twitter account that more than 6.4 million people follow, shared the following tweet: “You’re a 10 but only play single player games.” What is meant by this statement are players who are particularly attractive, i.e. who represent a 10 out of 10. However, their big “shortcoming” consists of the fact that they only play single-player titles – according to EA an absolute no-go.

Why is the community so mad?

The fact that such a tweet comes primarily from EA can hardly be surpassed in terms of irony. After all, the company could hardly save itself from criticism with many of its current games in the past. A good example of this is the online action game anthem, which was developed by EA and BioWare (Mass Effect, Dragon Age) and was able to generate a lot of hype in advance. When it was released, however, “Anthem” faced mostly negative criticism.

A core aspect concerned the desire of many players for a pure single-player title that tells an exciting story, not an immature loot shooter with co-op mechanics and repetitive missions that hardly create any atmosphere.

And the lack of a campaign for “Battlefield 2042”, which was released for the various platforms in November 2022, was also heavily criticized by the community. Instead, the responsible development studio DICE concentrated on numerous new features for the pure multiplayer shooter, including the co-op mode. was delivered.

The result of these decisions, which obviously completely ignored the wishes of the players? The number of players shot down shortly after the launch, the co-op mode has now been completely discontinued and EA is left with a burned brand. That could also be published a few weeks ago season 1 not change much with a manageable amount of new content.

The announcement that the Star Wars title on which Uncharted author Amy Henning worked, was discontinued, was also badly received by fans at the time. Was it about Project RagTag but a single player title with a strong focus on the story. The reason? At this point, EA saw the future in service games and not in closed single player experiences. After all, the great success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Slowly get EA to rethink, maybe.

EA puts its finger in the wound

These are just three examples that are intended to illustrate why players react very sensitively and, above all, quickly hurt or offended when it comes to single-player, especially in relation to EA. Such a thoughtless tweet seems as if EA would put its finger in the players’ wounds.

Ultimately, Electronic Arts responded with a second tweet in which a funny saying was used to try to somehow save the situation.

“Mockery well deserved. We accept this loss because playing single player games actually turns you into an 11.”

However, this attempt was not really crowned with success.
