Evergreen Anno 1800: Fresh CPU and graphics card benchmarks – how do 5800X3D & Co. run?

Phenomenon Anno 1800: Current processor and graphics card benchmarks of the long-running game

Hardly any other game from Germany is as popular as Anno 1800, which was released on April 26th, 2019 and is constantly being further developed. The now seventh part of the series transports the players to the time of the industrial revolution of the 19th century. Unlike its predecessors set in the future (2070 and 2205), in Anno 1800 players take advantage of engineering, self-generated electricity, and motorized ships. Fortunately, the basic principle, namely the colonization of the island and the fulfillment of the consumer goods of the population, has changed very little in the newest part. However, the developers have added fresh new elements to it, such as manpower, luxury needs, and tourists visiting the island and sightseeing. If you still find the time to look at your island world in peace with all these challenges and opportunities, you will find that Anno 1800 not only looks beautiful with its inner values. Because even more than three years after the release, Anno 1800 still looks fantastic. We took a closer look at the game and provide fresh CPU and GPU benchmarks including detail scaling.

Special features of Anno 1800

What makes the game so special and why is it so successful? There are certainly many reasons that have to do with the gameplay of the title. A new element is the attractiveness of your city. The newly introduced system evaluates the city according to the positive criteria of culture, nature and festivals and the negative criteria of non-places, pollution and instability. The pristine nature of an island is what gives it a good rating in the first place, but the more you expand your city, the more space it will take up, crowding out trees, animals, and green landscapes. To keep the locals happy, invest in culture and festivities throughout the game. For example, you can build a theatre, the zoo, a botanical garden or museums to improve the rating. Happy Residents also celebrate festivals in your city when you satisfy your luxury needs. Industrial areas, such as pig farming and especially heavy industry, are detrimental to the attractiveness. As you will not be able to avoid these game elements, clever planning of the different islands is a must. But don’t worry, this is more fun than it sounds. Based on the sales and the positive feedback, Blue Byte has developed many expansions for Anno 1800, which we would like to briefly introduce to you.

Season Pass 1 – Sunken Treasures, The Passage and Botanica

The first three expansions for Anno 1800 mainly bring new worlds and a pretty botanical garden into play. Part of the Sunken Treasures DLC is a huge island onto which players can build the largest of any Anno settlement in the game, including all the bonuses and supply issues associated with such a large settlement. Things are completely different in Die Passage. This expansion adds an arctic island world based on those in Anno 2205. The DLC also expands the game with two new types of settlers, the heating system known from the predecessor and an airship system with which goods can be moved between the continents. Finally, the botanical garden adds 59 plant species to the game for an exhibit, along with numerous ornaments and a bandstand performing string orchestra variations of game music from previous Anno games.

Season Pass 2 – Land of the Lions, Bountiful Harvest and Palaces of Power

The next three expansions “only” add a new area, but Land of the Lions has it all. In the desert world, everything revolves around Emperor Ketema and his kingdom Enbesa, which should find its way back to its former glory with the help of the player. The appeal of the desert lies in providing water for fertile land, which has to be laboriously laid via access routes. The Bountiful Harvest DLC introduces farm machinery that allows farms to cultivate a larger area of land with fewer personnel, provided they have access to petrol from a gas station. You don’t have to use these elements, but in addition to productivity, they also increase the complexity for experienced Anno players. Palaces of Power introduces the palace from Anno 1404 in 1800 and expands it with the possibility to set policies in the palace wings in various areas such as economy, culture or defense that strongly influence the game.

Season Pass 3 – Speicherstadt, City Rooftops and Travel Time

The first expansion expands the port area and allows for the construction of a warehouse district, consisting of multiple wings and buildings that serve island, trade, and shipping functions. Once completed, it will allow you to trade goods with major corporations around the world, with continued trade also improving your own trading opportunities. With the help of the “Roofs of the City” DLC you can build huge skyscrapers. The resulting urban culture develops needs that are satisfied with the new shopping center. The Travel Time expansion adds a new citizen tier called Tourists. These have their own needs and deliver new buildings.

Season Pass 4 – Seed of Hope, Realm of the Skies and Rise of the New World

The (last?) Season Pass was only presented at the end of 2021 and rolled out in the course of 2022. Seed of Hope is already available. This makes it possible for the players to build a so-called hacienda, which enables the cultivation of raw materials that previously had to be imported and improves other productions in its radius of influence. Reich der Lüfte is scheduled to appear in summer 2022 and establish an airship system in the New World that can be used to strengthen the logistical network. Another scenario has also been announced. Rise of the New World is said to be the conclusion of the fourth season and will be released at the end of 2022. Among other things, a new population class, a separate landmark and additional building space for the New World have been announced.

In addition to the major DLCs, Anno 1800 also offers other cosmetic content for sale, including the Christmas or fairground package. Schönbauer enjoy additional ornaments. However, these extensions do not bring any advantages. On the following page we now deal with the current performance of Anno 1800.
