New boss in Guild Wars 2 makes players despair for days: "Finally something for hardcore fans"

Guild Wars 2 is known for orienting itself towards casual players and putting a focus on the further development of the game world and the story. The first raids came into play in 2015, but these instances have been dispensed with since 2019. Instead, the so-called attack missions were established. And the latest hardmode of it really packs a punch.

What is this attack mission? In the Assault missions, bosses from the story or the open world are usually packed into an instance and can be fought and defeated there by a group of 10 players.

With the new expansion End of Dragons, four attack missions came into play, which should have additional challenge modes after the release. The developers promised that the increased level of difficulty should be comparable to raids.

In the last mission, the Harvest Temple, that’s absolutely true. There the final boss of the expansion was challenged again. But to defeat this one boss, even the strongest guild needed almost 5 days. That’s why the hardcore players are more than satisfied.

How did the progression work in Guild Wars 2?

  • The new Harvest Temple challenge mode was released on Tuesday, June 28th at 10:00 AM PST.
  • It wasn’t until Sunday, July 3rd at 5:18pm that the boss was defeated for the first time. The well-known raid guild Snow Crows, which also creates class guides and DPS benchmarks, got the World First. Previously, they failed even at 1% remaining life (via reddit).
  • The Snow Crows showed around 31 hours of their fights against boss Soo-Won live on Twitch. MightyTeapot and Mela, who got the second kill a few hours later with their group, even showed over 60 hours in which they despaired of the boss fight.

You can see how the World First went in this clip:

How does the boss fare overall? Very good. In normal mode, many guilds have already defeated the Harvest Temple, which is also an adapted version of the big world boss fight from the last area. So most players have already defeated the dragon Soo-Won themselves.

In challenge mode, however, the combat is so difficult that even many experienced raiders face a severe test. Exactly this combination then pleases almost every player:

  • Reddit user Alakazarm writes: “What insanely fun days. Thank you Cameron [Entwickler] and everyone else involved in making such content available in GW2. That goes a long way towards making the game feel like the great MMO it is.”
  • Subversiontwo is also enthusiastic: “Not only congratulations to Snow Crows, but also to the developers who have finally started to move in the right direction. That type of content, the battle for World Firsts, always had the potential that Assault Missions had.”

The German streamer Roca, for example, switched to Final Fantasy XIV a few years ago because it lacked the challenge in Guild Wars 2. However, he followed the progress to the Temple of Harvest with great interest and even compared it roughly with the Ultimates from FFXIV. After all, the players sat on the latest raid for six days.

At the end of his thread he draws the conclusion that the Hardmode in GW2 and the Ultimate Raid in FFXIV can both do things better than the other, but both are above all a win for hardcore players.

Guild Wars 2 gets the hardest content yet while also bringing easy modes for raids

Where is Guild Wars 2 going when it comes to hardcore content? A very interesting one. Because the new hardmode is the hardest content in the game. For comparison:

At the same time, however, a decision was made to simplify entry into the old raids. An easy mode has been required since 2015 to introduce players who are not so experienced to the bosses and raids. This was also released with the patch on June 28th.

So the patch brought both easier access to the old raids and really heavy content for hardcore players. This is exactly how it can continue from the point of view of many fans.

What happens next in Guild Wars 2? The developers still have a few things planned for 2022. This is how new story content should come that continues the story of End of Dragons. Also missing are three episodes of the ancient Living World Season 1, which is set to release later this year and is expected to bring back content from 2013.

In addition, Guild Wars 2 should appear on Steam later this year and thus attract new players. A fourth expansion is also planned for the long-term future:
