Twitch streamer just plays a champ in LoL and Riot nerfs him dead – But he just can’t leave him

Master YI Splash LoL

In League of Legends, Twitch streamer Joseph Oscedo Hursey is known as “Cowsep”. He’s a one trick pony, he only plays one champion: Master Yi. But the streamer believes that it is worse than ever in LoL. This also affects his career. But change the champion? Never!

This is what makes the Streamer Cowsep so special:

  • In LoL there are the “One Trick Ponies” (OTP) – these are players who have specialized in just one of the now more than 160 heroes in League of Legends. If they get the chance, they always play that hero – whether the rest of the team likes it or not. For this they often have to listen to some insults.
  • Cowsep is completely dedicated to the champion “Master Yi”, actually a classic “starter hero” who is considered a newbie killer in the beginner area.
  • Cowsep has been playing LoL since 2009 and has lived in South Korea since 2012. He has around 720,000 followers on Twitch, with an average of 1,000 people watching him. Last year he was on the air for more than 1,550 hours.

Today’s biggest LoL streamer on Twitch started out as a “One Trick Pony” for Draven:

How Twitch’s worst troll became the face of League of Legends

LoL nerfs Master Yi for killing too many newbies

He has dedicated himself to this hero: Master Yi is one of LoL’s “Ur-Heroes”, he’s been in the game since 2009 and only costs 450 Blue Essence – practically everyone can buy the champ right at the start.

Master Yi is a type of samurai melee fighter with the ability to heal himself and deal true damage: he is a tank killer and is used in top lane or the jungle.

Especially in the beginner and “Low Elo” area, Master Yi is considered a strong character. But in March 2022, it became too colorful for Riot Games and the really big Nerf trowel was brought out: Before that, Master Yi had benefited greatly from “On Hit” effects.

Since the nerf, however, Master Yi has been considered practically “unplayable.”

That’s what he says about the status of his champion: Cowsep knows better than anyone what a mess his only hero has been in for the last few months. In an interview with the Inven website, he explains:

Right now, Master Yi is in the worst condition I’ve ever seen him in. I play in Korea and at the current ELO I play Master Yi has a 41% winrate. I’ve never seen such a bad champ. He’s really bad.

However, Cowsep expects Master Yi to get a major makeover soon. But that will take a few more patches.

Cowsep advises his viewers to play Master Yi just for fun, especially in “low Elo” he is still okay. The higher you play with him, the worse it gets. The players should console themselves: At least now he has a low ban rate.

Right now, Master Yi is down – but Cowsep is hoping for a big patch.

Actually, you have to move away from a single hero, but Cowsep loves Master Yi too much

How is this affecting his streaming career? Cowsep says the Yi nerf hit him hardest on YouTube: people just don’t search for videos about the hero as much now:

That’s the downside of being a one-trick pony. That sucks. You are at the mercy of the patch and how your champ fares.

If you don’t play your champ, fewer people will watch. That’s stupid too. Ultimately, your goal is to get away from it.

But Cowsep’s problem is that he just likes the champion so much he can’t stop playing it.

But one day he might want to expand and try other champs like Volibear or Wukong.

He looks with envy at people who can easily switch to hip meta champions:

It’s a night and day difference: How I have to struggle in this game [mit Master Yi]. When you play those meta champions… they just play themselves.

However, Cowsep does not have a specific point in time when he will leave Master Yi and switch to one of these cool meta champions. He just says: One day he will do it!

At the moment, he’s mainly looking for variety by changing servers – if he doesn’t want to change champions.

We recently reported on another “One Trick Pony” that made Riot Games even change LoL:

Riot changes LoL because a Twitch streamer uses a weird tactic that keeps him dying
