Ashes of Creation: Great Progress for Combat! Weapon attacks in dev update
The new video update from the developers of Ashes of Creation focuses on the progress made for the combat system. Specifically, the designers demonstrate the basic weapon attacks with a two-handed sword and daggers.
As is well known, the developers of Ashes of Creation deliver a comprehensive video update on the current progress of the online role-playing game every month. After Character creation in Aprilto the Overview of the event system in May and the seasons tech in june stood by July stream the progress of the combat system in the foreground.
Chic two-handed and dagger action
At the beginning of the Combat segment, Creative Director Steven Sharif explains that the developers are planning several status updates to the Ashes of Creation combat system in the future. They should each revolve around their own aspects of the fights, so that the players then have the opportunity to give concrete feedback on the different areas.
The beginning is the foundation: the basic weapon attacks using the example of a two-handed sword and daggers. The focus is on the animations and effects, the visual feedback and the feeling of combat (which is of course rather difficult to convey with such a video). However, some skills from the two-handed and dagger arsenal are also shown.
Big progress to Alpha 1, but still room for improvement
The changes that have flowed into the combat system over the last few months are based heavily on player feedback from Alpha 1. And as we look at the Feedback thread for the new update then the developers seem to be on the right track. Many players are excited about the improvements made.
However, there is still room for improvement. Blocking would feel even more powerful if you could also see from the character’s movement that you just caught a powerful blow. In general, hits could have even more “impact”, especially when it comes to heavy attacks with heavy weapons. These must be slow and stagger opponents. The whirl with the daggers, however, seems a bit inappropriate, as if this is a skill from another branch of arms.
Ultimately, however, this looks really good for an Alpha. We’re already very excited to see what overall impression Ashes of Creation will make in the hopefully forthcoming Alpha 2. After all, the MMORPG is owned by Intrepid Studios to our greatest genre hopes.
