Thor 5: Will there be a Marvel sequel after Love and Thunder?

A new round of Marvel spectacles: The 29th MCU blockbuster has been running in cinemas worldwide since July 7, 2022. In our film review, we have already revealed in detail what we think of the latest adventure of the god of thunder Thor Odinson and why we see a number of problems that could spoil the fun. We have also summarized in a big special who dies in Thor 4, what the big surprises and cameos are and what Marvel reveals in the two after-credit scenes about the MCU future. Which brings us to what is probably the most exciting topic for many: What are the chances of a sequel to Thor: Love & Thunder? What could we expect in Thor 5? Will Taika Waititi return to the MCU again? And who will be starring in the next “divine” Marvel movie?

Spoiler alert: Of course, to be able to clarify these questions, we have to go into Thor: Love & Thunder. So if you haven’t seen the movie yet and don’t want spoilers, then you should avoid this article for now.

What are the odds for Thor 5?

Damn good actually, and for a number of reasons. For one, Chris Hemsworth recently commented on his future MCU plans. In an interview with AP Entertainment, the MCU veteran reveals how he feels about further appearances: “As long as the audience, the fans, the Marvel gods don’t say, ‘No, we’ve had enough,’ I will continue [im MCU] Pop up. I love it! It’s great fun.” Sounds like he’s quite excited about more big screen adventures as Marvel’s Thunder God.

On the other hand, Marvel is building up a number of different storylines in Thor: Love & Thunder, which are not mandatory in terms of a sequel, but make sense. There’s also the first glimpse of Zeus’ overpowering son, Hercules, who is tasked with hunting Thor in the first after-credits scene. In addition, Thor’s new foster daughter, Love, is likely to play a major role in Marvel’s future – possibly even as part of the “Young Avengers”, which could also include America Chavez, Mrs. Marvel and many more. But before that, it would be logical to explore Thor’s relationship and role as a father in more detail.

It is definitely clear that there will be a reunion with Thor. As is typical for Marvel, Thor 4 dismisses its many fans with a clear message: “Thor will return!” There have been rumors for a long time that Chris Hemsworth could take revenge on the Guardians of the Galaxy and have an appearance in the third part of James Gunn. After the huge success of Thor 3: Ragnarok and (almost certainly) also Thor 4: Love & Thunder, Marvel will not let Thor 5 take the cinema success carved in stone.

Will Taika Waititi return behind the camera for another Thor movie?

The popular filmmaker, who also won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay with Jojo Rabbit, was exclusively produced by DMARGE interviewed about his possible MCU comeback. His short but clear answer to Thor 5: “If Chris [Hemsworth] If I’m there, then I would do it.” Although there are currently no known plans, that could change at the latest for San Diego Comic-Con (July 21-24), where Marvel Studios will be represented for the first time since 2019 is and should present the next plans for the MCU.

Should it actually happen, fans will still have to be prepared for a long wait. Taika Waititi is known to be a busy man. The New Zealander is currently working on a Star Wars film. In addition, a sports comedy called “Next Goal Wins”, a live-action Flash Gordon film and a (still) planned Akira remake are on his insanely full to-do list.

Who will star in Thor 5?

Before Thor: Love & Thunder, most would probably have bet money that Marvel would say goodbye to the well-known Thor Odinson to make room for Jane Foster’s The Mighty Thor. No wonder, considering the popularity of the comic book character, who has appeared as a superheroine in various Marvel stories since the mid-2010s. After her death in Thor 4, however, one thing is clear: if another Marvel film comes to the god of thunder, then it will be starring Chris Hemsworth and his daughter India, who will play Thor’s foster daughter from now on. Incidentally, such relationships are not new territory for Taika Waititi – see Jojo Rabbit or Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
