Made in Abyss: New trailer for the disturbing JRPG shows the characters

Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is getting its own JRPG for PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. But don’t be fooled by the childlike faces and big eyes, because the world in Made in Abyss is by no means as friendly and idyllic as it seems. Rather the opposite.

Off into the abyss and up with the relics

The new trailer focuses on introducing you to the characters and gameplay mechanics. As in the anime, we can accompany Riko, Reg and Co. on their adventure in the abyss and have the choice between two modes: “Hello Abyss” and “Deep in Abyss”, which you play with Riko or Aki. The names of the modes indicate an easier and a harder level of difficulty.

Our character will be the customizable Aki, who doesn’t appear in the series himself. Also present are Marulk, Ozen, Jiruo who will provide you with quests, Hablog and the trio of Shiggy, Nat and Kiyui.

Together you fight creepy creatures in the abyss, search for relics and collect resources. But the Abyss is no picnic and you will be exposed to the extreme stress that awaits you away from the many monsters. It can also be bloody and otherwise unsightly.

The brutal child labor in the Abyss provides a stark contrast

The action-adventure in the dark abyss, for which Riko Azuna sings the title song “Light”, is scheduled to start on September 2nd. In the press release, the singer also left a personal message:

“This is Riko Azuna speaking. As a fan of Made in Abyss, it is my great honor to sing the theme song for Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness. On a long and endless adventure, Riko and her friends have a strong one heart and keep going.”

“I sang the song with all my soul, as if accompanying the story so that fleeting little light would not go out. Even after beating the game, you can still feel the vastness of the Abyss and the feelings of the adventurers brought by been passed down from generation to generation.”

I myself am looking forward to the game, because the anime really fascinated me. I was initially put off by the chibi style of the characters, but then my sister persuaded me and was impressed by how much the childlike optics reinforce the disturbing scenes. If you don’t hide directly behind the sofa when you hear the word “gore”, you’re welcome to take a look.
