WoW: This is how newcomers avoid the compulsion to play BfA!
If you play your first character in WoW, you have to play through Battle for Azeroth as an expansion after the starting area. But with a little trick you can get around it and still be able to choose the expansion of your choice using Chromie time.
When the level squish was carried out with WoW: Shadowlands, the developers not only lowered the new maximum level, but also completely revised the way to get there. Thanks to the so-called Chromie time, you can choose one of the past expansions for the gnome and no longer have to play through all of them one after the other. After the starting area, there is only one expansion left before you can set off for the shadow lands. This not only makes leveling faster, but also more enjoyable. Depending on your preference, you can experience the entire story of Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King or Legion.
Only completely new players are exempt from this option. The developers dictate that they must play Battle for Azeroth as an expansion to better understand the Shadowlands story. That sounds reasonable in theory. But since BfA is not necessarily the best extension for levelling, this compulsion has few friends. With a little trick, however, the whole thing can be circumvented, so that new players can also choose freely.
The magic word is class rehearsal
Like a resourceful player, who wanted to level with his friend who is new to the world of Warcraft, found out that the compulsion can be bypassed. All you have to do is create a character through the class trial. This then probably levers out the system and you can choose the timeline that you like best with your actual low-level character at Chromie.
- Create your character and finish the starting area.
- Create another character via the class test (check the box at the bottom right of character creation)
- Then log back into your actual character and start the expansion of your choice (at Chromie in Stormwind or Orgrimmar)
Now you no longer have to level up through Battle for Azeroth, you can, for example, get in the mood for the upcoming Classic start with Wrath of Lich King. On the other hand, if you really want to understand the history of Shadowlands, you should probably stay with BfA – and read one or the other book about it.
Which expansion do you use to level up new characters and what do you base your decision on? From the stories of the respective expansions or rather from the quality of the dungeons if you level over dungeons? Or do you just use the Blizzard Boost and save yourself the level path completely?
