Sony is surprisingly coming around the corner with a new announcement. But this isn’t about a game, it’s about a new loyalty program called PlayStation Stars, which comes in a blog post presented on the official website.

When does PlayStation Stars start? There is no date yet. The blog post just says “throughout the year”. After the start of the program, it will be continuously developed.

How PlayStation Stars works

Does membership in the loyalty program cost anything? No, anyone with a PSN account can sign up and participate in PlayStation Stars for free.

How do we collect loyalty points?

Basically, it’s all about playing and earning loyalty points across the board. This can easily happen automatically on the side, or you can play specifically to get loyalty points.

  • PS Store purchases (PS Plus subscription only)
  • complete campaigns
  • do activities

As examples of campaigns, Sony cites the “Monthly Check-In” campaign, in which we simply have to play any game. But they also earn points by winning tournaments and getting certain trophies. In the case of blockbuster titles, it should even be possible to receive bonuses if we are the first player in our local time zone to win the platinum trophy.

What rewards will there be?

We can redeem the collected loyalty points in a catalogue. So far, Sony has mentioned the following bonuses:

  • PSN Balance
  • select PS Store products
  • digital collectibles

The digital collectibles are “digital renderings of things PlayStation fans love, including figurines of popular and iconic characters from games and other entertainment formats, as well as gadgets we love and reflect Sony’s history of innovation.”

PlayStation Stars is the answer to Xbox Rewards

Of course, loyalty programs of this type are nothing new. If this sounds familiar to you in games, then this is probably due to the Xbox Rewards, among other things. On the Microsoft consoles, we can also collect points by playing and exchange them for rewards.
