Modding with the 3D printer

When the first 3D printers saw the light of day, the whole topic was still largely a dream of the future for the home. Not only was the price of the devices unattainable, the dimensions of the monstrous machines went beyond any scope of private use. Who would have thought back then that the entry level into the world of 3D printing would one day be so low that you could get a functional and good 3D printer for 150 euros? This is thanks to the countless hobbyists who have provided an open and accessible platform with their own constructions and extensions. The market for 3D printers is not dominated by single large companies, rather small companies offer printers, accessories and printing materials at reasonable prices. If you want to start with 3D printing, you should pick up 200 euros and grab it. Of course, you also need a computer. Naturally, this shouldn’t be a problem for a hardware enthusiast looking to mod their PC with a 3D printer. The main thing on the computer is the construction and preparation of the 3D print. We use a CAD program for construction and slicer software to prepare for printing. Both are also available for free.

Basic principle and functionality of a 3D printer

Most commercially available 3D printers are FDM printers that use a heated nozzle to melt a plastic filament and apply it in layers. In addition to the FDM, there are now also more and more so-called resin printers, which can solidify liquid synthetic resin with the help of UV light. However, for starters, an FDM printer is a better choice. Handling and operation are generally easier.
