Criminals have successfully stolen data from the internal network of game publisher Bandai Namco. The Japanese company confirmed this to “Eurogamer“. Accordingly, the attackers succeeded on July 3rd in gaining digital access to the group.
The attack probably affected data from Asia with the exception of Japan. European players, on the other hand, can breathe a sigh of relief. They were apparently not the target of the attack. Bandai Namco has so far kept silent about the amount and type of data. However, there is a possibility that customer information was also stolen.
Measures have now been taken to prevent further attacks and to strengthen the company’s security.
A few days ago, initial information about the attack circulated online. on Twitter At that time, the hacking group Blackcat (also known as ALPHV) claimed responsibility for the attack. She also gave no information about the stolen data.
The full statement made to Eurogamer is as follows:
“On July 3, 2022, Bandai Namco Holdings Inc. confirmed that there had been unauthorized third party access to the internal systems of several group companies in Asia (excluding Japan).
After confirming the unauthorized access, we took measures such as blocking access to the servers to prevent the damage from spreading. In addition, there is a possibility that the servers and PCs contained customer data about the toy and hobby business in the Asian regions (excluding Japan). We are currently determining the condition of the leak, the extent of the damage and investigating the cause.
We will continue to investigate the cause of this incident and will announce the results of the investigation in due course. We will also work with external organizations to increase safety across the group and take action to prevent the incident from happening again.
We sincerely apologize to everyone involved for the complications and concerns caused by this incident.”
