Romanzen Mass Effect 2 - Liara

Mass Effect is still a very popular SciFi series among gamers. For some users cloudy alone Mass Effect 3 the overall experience. The title isn’t even bad, but the ending leaves a lot to be desired for some.

At Reddit, the author Drew Karpyshyn revealed that for “Mass Effect 3” a different ending was originally intended. During his time at BioWare, Drew Karpyshyn worked on the first two “Mass Effect” parts, among other things. He was no longer there for the third part of the series.

Mass Effect 3: Drastic ending with mass portals

The end of “Mass Effect 3” had divided the players in 2012. While some were happy with the ending, there was criticism from other users. The controversy was so great that the developers only a short time after the release of the game released an “Extended Cut”.which toned down some parts of the ending.

During a Q&A on Reddit, Drew Karpyshyn wanted to promote his new book. He also answered other questions about his career. A user asked how he solved the ending of the “Mass Effect” trilogy.

“For Mass Effect, we had some very rough ideas. Basically, it was about luring the Reapers through the mass portals and then blowing up the entire network to wipe them out. But that would also have destroyed the relays and isolated each galactic community from the others. But we still had a lot of details to work out and there were some issues with that option… like what we would do in the following game series.”according to Karpyshyn.

As one Redditor writes, this idea sounds a little like, like the DLC “Arrival”. This plays after Mass Effect 2 and creates a connection to “Mass Effect 3”. It is not known why BioWare changed its mind and chose a different ending for the series.

However, the developers at BioWare are currently working on a new part of the “Mass Effect” series. At the Game Awards 2020, a first teaser trailer to the supposed Mass Effect 5 shown. However, last April the studio was able to announce that the title was officially in an early stage of development.
