WoW brings new collection success, fans are angry – will be changed immediately

World of Warcraft Dragonflight hasn’t even been released yet, but collectors are already dissatisfied. Blizzard has to take back a mount on the first night of the Alpha.

World of Warcraft has not only lasted for years because of its gameplay, but also because of the many other things you can do in Azeroth. Above all, collecting a wide variety of things is part of it – at the forefront are mounts. The big milestones in particular, such as 100, 200 or 300 different mounts, will be given additional rewards. That should also happen in Dragonflight – but the fans immediately go on the barricades. Because they feel cheated.

What happened? The Dragonflight Alpha is live and many are already cavorting on the Dragon Isles. This also started the big data mining and a lot of new content can already be viewed. There is a new achievement that is awarded to characters if they have at least 500 different mounts.

As a reward for this, there is then the 501st mount on top – a large yeti with a riding chair.

At least that was Blizzard’s original plan.

Why are the fans mad? The Yeti mount triggered numerous negative comments. Whether in the official forums or on fan sites, there was criticism almost everywhere that the Yeti should be the reward for collecting 500 mounts.

There are already a few Yeti mounts in the game and that would basically just have been a “recolor” – i.e. a new coloring of an already existing mount.

In the eyes of many fans, this is absolutely unworthy of the achievement of having collected more than 500 mounts. The comments are correspondingly negative, such as:

• “Boring, ugly mount. You couldn’t have made a more boring achievement decision.”
• “Yes, that is disappointing. After all, it’s… something. But in an expansion centered around dragons, getting a ground mount from Warlords of Draenor feels bad. So. Really bad.”
• “Gah. I mean… thanks for the success when I log in, but… the yeti is one of the most unpopular mounts out there.”

The timing is also extremely unfavorable, because World of Warcraft had just offered a new mount in the shop, which is also available for a 6-month subscription.

Blizzard promises immediate change: On the same evening Blizzard in the form of the developer “Chimes” in official WoW forum reported to speak. It is said of him:

yes we agree The Yeti will be swapped out with another mount in a future build (not a Yeti), but this may take some time. Feedback like this is always useful, and please remember that things you see in the alpha are subject to change.

So the fans are reassured for the time being. Incidentally, it is unlikely that the Yeti was a “placeholder”. Because the success was called “Thanks for the Carry!” And the mount was the “Carrier Yeti” – so Blizzard had already thought about it going well together.

It is not yet clear which mount will replace the Yeti. Let’s hope it will be something more exciting that fans will be happy with as well.
