One-piece cosplay: hobbyists use a trick to turn a fan favorite into a great one
Cosplaying One Piece is often a tricky thing. Sure, human characters like the pretty Yamato, the sweet Perona or even Nami and Nico Robin can be “recreated” quite well, after all they are normal people apart from the creative proportions of the artist Odas. But the world of One Piece is populated by imaginative beings, including fish people. If you want to present these characters as cosplay, you have to think a lot more – but at the Anime North fair a talented cosplayer definitely has it with his one-piece cosplay!
Fish people are a vivid example of what the Netflix series One Piece will do differently than the original.
Great cosplay as a fishman Jinbei from One Piece
One visitor actually dressed up as Jinbei from One Piece. This one actually has total cartoon proportions, with a huge mouth and massive physique. But the cosplayer Colin was clever: he already has a strong physique and Jinbei’s most important facial feature is his mouth. Accordingly, he only had to build a kind of mask that gives him the iconic mouth with the boar-like tusks. Accordingly, there is no such thing as a dead-eyed, lifeless papier-mâché look, and the result looks amazing:
On his Instagram profile, hobbyist Colin reveals a detailed look at the half-face mask Jinbei’s mouth gave him. Of course, the playfully drawn eyebrows and sideburns should not be missing either, giving the character a mythical look.
Who is Jinbei in One Piece?
The blue-skinned fishman is the newest member of the Straw Hat Pirates led by Monkey D. Luffy and his friends. He first appeared while conversing with Puma D. Ace as an inmate at Impel Down Maximum Security Prison. That is where the Fishman was put because he was the only one of the Seven Samurai of the Seas who had refused to stand against the Whitebeard Pirates.

He is now a member of the Straw Hat Pirates and fulfills the role of helmsman on board the ship. On top of that, he’s a powerful fighter who has mastered Fishman karate and can control massive amounts of water before smashing them with a bang – defying even Big Mom:
