Electronic Arts: New patent for examining user behavior

Electronic Arts (Unternehmen) von Electronic Arts

The FIFA maker wants to make its players smarter. A newly applied for patent should ensure that the collected data of the players are responsible for the next steps.

EA is looking for new ways to scrutinize the player even better and to find the best measure to make the gaming experience even more palatable. A new patent with the name “Persona Driven Dynamic Content Framework” should help the game giant.

What game type are you?

The patent speaks of a system that “a player personality […] determined based on gameplay information for the user”. Different player categories are available to choose from such as “Explorer”, “Competitor”, “Collector”, “Supporter”, “Fighter”, “Leader”, “Commander” or “Completor” .

Based on this data, EA would like to react accordingly and offer further content that fits the evaluated playstyle. However, product recommendations are still the most harmless thing the software manufacturer intends to do with the new patent.

The big goal?

Because actually the debate here is to find out how to get the money out of the player’s pocket even more easily and quickly. Are you vulnerable to certain microtransactions? Then the game just throws out more of it. Or the entire game content is turned inside out using procedural technology in such a way that the game adapts to the preferences of the inclined gamer. Then hard fights might be avoided, the action inserts scaled down according to the evaluation.

Once lulled, because suddenly everything works so well and the player thinks he is the best in the world, further gifts up to totally undemandingly dulling would of course not be a problem here.
