FIFA 23: Sam Kerr is the first cover player in the series

With FIFA 23, the last title with the prestigious name of Electronic Arts appears after around 30 years of series history. A few months before the release, the publisher has now presented the cover images of the various versions. These are traditionally chosen by a footballer who has produced particularly outstanding performances in the past season.

Finally, Electronic Arts does not break with this tradition, but adapts it to the times. Because in addition to world champion and star striker Kylian Mbappé, a player also joins the international cover for the first time. Sam Kerr also plays as a striker for the Australian national team and British Chelsea. With 54 goals, she is the current all-time leading scorer in the FA Women’s Super League.

As early as 2016, Electronic Arts released a regional cover picture with cover players in the USA. Players Alex Morgan, Christine Sinclair and Stephanie Catley were pictured here. Up to this year, however, the international cover was a purely male domain.

In a Electronic Arts press release shared Kerr: “Being on the cover of FIFA 23 is an honor and a dream come true. It has been amazing working with Kylian and the entire EA Sports team and I can’t wait for fans to see a copy of the game get your hands on.”

Kylian Mbappé is also enthusiastic about the new cover: “I’m thrilled to be featured on the cover of EA Sports FIFA for the third time and even more excited to share the cover in honor of women’s football with a great player like Sam Kerr. As a big fan of the match, I’m looking forward to the final FIFA and can’t wait to see you all on the pitch.”

While both players share the cover of the more expensive Ultimate Edition, only one of them will be shown on the Standard Edition. Mbappé will grace the cover photo in most regions. Kerr, on the other hand, will be featured on the Australian and New Zealand covers, as well as the worldwide Amazon exclusive.
