The greatest LoL player of all time is now suing fans for malicious online comments

Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok (26) is considered the greatest MOBA League of Legends player of all time. But criticism of the midlaner has been increasing since 2020. His LoL team T1 and he received hateful messages. Now you don’t want to put up with that anymore and step in: You are suing the authors of malicious online comments against a coach, against fakers and against other members of T1.

Who is Faker and why is he considered the best player?

• Faker was a dominant midlane force right from the start of League of Legends. In the midlane, LoL plays flexible and deadly champions who can kill opponents alone with quick skill combinations – Faker has always been exceptionally good at this.
• A veritable cult formed around Faker early on: video clips showed how Faker effortlessly emerged as the winner from even the most hopeless situation. He hardly touched a mine, but always remained ice cold.
• In addition, Faker had enormous success: in 2013, 2015 and 2016 he became world champion – he won the championship 10 times in Korea: The LCK is considered the strongest league in the world. At the time earned the nickname “Indestructible Demon King.”

Faker is considered a kind of “national shrine” in South Korea, as an ambassador and flagship for the whole country:

Faker and his team T1 also received ugly news in 2020: Back then, T1 went through a crisis and Faker was benched for a few matches and replaced by a young midlaner.

His coach at the time, Kim “Moment” Ji-hwan, received death threats for his decision to replace Faker.

This is the reaction now: On July 19, T1’s legal team went public with Faker and held a press conference in front of the Jongno Police Station: Jongo is a district of Seoul.

It says Faker has repeatedly asked people to refrain from malicious comments, but such comments have kept coming and have become more and more malicious.

Representatives of the law firm APEX LAW LLC now say:

The players, the players’ families and everyone around them continue to suffer on a spiritual level and we have no choice but to take criminal action against those who leave such hateful comments online.

It is said that one will proceed rigorously here and not get involved in any deals. Going forward, the team will monitor comments and take action against comments targeting T1 and Faker.

Personal attacks are not something to be accepted

In a press release from T1, Faker is quoted as saying:

“Faker believes that every professional player has to live with the fact that their performances and career are judged by fans. But: Inappropriate criticism and personal attacks are not something you have to accept

T1 is determined to protect its members from such attacks. In the past, charges have been brought against people who verbally attacked their coach “Moment”. Today would launch additional charges against those who attack fakers.

They also want to bring charges against “John Doe”, i.e. against unknown persons.

T1 adds: These are not one-off measures, but will protect the players in the long term.
